KC Association of Black Journalists honors Star employees, awards scholarship

Several Kansas City Star staff members receiveds: awards Saturday from the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists, which also named its scholarship winnerThe Star’s award winner
•Mike McGraw, Laura Bauer and Mark Morris in daily newspapers (over 100,000): Enterprise reporting for “A New Slaverys.”
•Cindy Hoedel of Star Magazine: Magazine features for “Playing Dady.”
•Alice Thorson, daily newspapers (over 100,000): Feature writing for “A Soundsuit Spectacular” and “What Color Makes Arts?”
•Keith Myers, daily newspapers (over 100,000): Photojournalism for “A New Slavery.”
Scholarship winners:
•KCABJ-Lucile H. Bluford Scholarship: Morgane Bruce, a junior at Wilberforce University, a $500 savings bond for college.
•KCABJ-Roy Wilkins Scholarship: Faith Slaughter, a freshman at Tennessee State University, a $1,000 savings bond for college.
•KCABJ-Laura R. Hockaday Scholarship: Micah Wilkins, a freshman at Warren Wilson College, a $500 savings bond for college.
•KCABJ-Nancy Diuguid Scholarship: Georgia Trevor, a senior at Ruskin High School, a $500 savings bond for college.
